Curious if any forum members live in Black Hammock, or have lived there, or have friends/family who live there. It appears to be a friendly place (example, people waving from their yards and golf carts to passers-by), and quite mix of residences from new houses to been-there-forever residences, including mansions and modest homes and mobiles. Requiring a 20-25 minute drive to get a gallon of milk could be worth it if "island living" was relaxing, peaceful, and yet without the feeling of complete isolation, that is, that "islanders" do interact with one another. Any experiences to share?

Attended gatherings as a child in the Oceanway area, many close to waterways. North Carolina has treated me well but I'm still drawn to Jacksonville.
I am also fond of a lot of these things you mentioned. I was just in Mayport Sunday and hopped on a large boat to go watch the air show. Sure the airshow was great but the best part of my day was cruising up river and south to the pier and back. As a kid, I used to fish the little jetties, set crab traps off the little bridge, my Grandpa drove the black beard ferry for years....That whole area from Mayport upto Cumberland is what it's all about.
