If you have your survey, you'll see what the easement is on the front of your property.

If you don't have your survey, you can look up your lot online through the property appraiser's office. They updated the system recently and you might be able to see what your easement it (or call them and they should be able to tell you).

It's different for different lots, but 9 feet is a common easement, so your fence would need to be 9 feet in from the curb. The height limit is usually 4 feet for front yard fences.

Here's the property appraiser link, you'll want to look up your property and then "map it":

You'll also need to check with your HOA (if you have one) to ensure there are no restrictions on front yard fences.

I placed protecting poles with the appropriate reflecting tape and a reflector around our property to protect it from truck drivers driving over our yard damaging the yard. Also, the city street drainage has be damaged and repaired by the city. The HOA are directing us as property owners to remove them claiming the are in the city easement and that there is a 5 feet distance from the road. Our sprinkler system is in the same location this small poles (3) feet high are located. As a property owner we believe we have the right to protect our property.

I know, it just doesn't feel right that as property owners we have to properly maintain (mow, irrigate, etc.) the city easement that technically belongs to us, but doesn't really, yet our desires to protect this strip of land isn't allowed. I feel your frustration. In nonHOAs the rules still apply; however, people sometimes place large rocks or other "movable" items to prevent damage and get away with it depending on the neighborhood. I'm guessing there are no curbs along your street?
