Bummer, but I totally understand and respect their decision. A bit of a head scratcher why SJC's Commissioners refuse to close their beaches. Now all the Duval folks will just come south to SJC thereby making SJC's beaches crowded and unsafe.

SJC closed the beaches to vehicular access. Kind of a head scratcher for me, won't that make people cluster much closer together now? I haven't heard of a good explanation for this. Honestly, I feel like the St Johns County Commissioners all need to be replaced. I generally disagree with most all of their major decisions. Either close it down completely or allow vehicles, this half-..sss nonsense makes no sense.

Our county beaches are filling up quickly on the beaches with vehicles. They are now limiting them and our parking lots are filling up quickly. Rumor has it that beach driving will stop at 5 PM in Nassau County.
It hurts but I say close the beaches. The weather is great and with Saint Simons and Duval beaches closed Amelia going to become the hot spot to enjoy the beach.

I'd be supportive of a full beach closure. We were contemplating going today to St Augustine Beach but figured that since we can't drive on the beach and find a secluded spot to ourselves, that we'd almost be forced into a cluster of dozens of people unless we haul all our beach gear a mile down from a parking lot. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Fernandina city beaches and all of Nassau County beaches are now officially closed along with Fort Clinch.
No vehicles or pedestrians on any beaches.
I hope and pray that the deaths from this virus are extremely low for the US, but the financial repercussions for families and businesses are really going to hurt a lot of people. I am about to turn sixty and in comparison to worrying about potentially being drafted, the oil crisis (gas lines) and then 9/11 this has got to be the scariest thing I have ever experienced since I have been born.

So SJC now closes the parking lots, but strangely still keeps the beaches open. More head scratching from me on this decision. How or why they could not anticipate a HUGE surge in beach traffic this past weekend is beyond me, anyone with half a brain could have foreseen that.
