My husband and I are spending a week in Jacksonville in May to get a feel of the city as a possible retirement home. We are looking for an area that is safe, but also has a nice mix of house styles and people! We are not adverse to some "light" renovations however the big stuff (renovations) are behind us. Our eventual goal is to have an Airbnb as a detached garage conversion or an area that can be separated from the main house. Our budget is around $200K. We would like to make the most of our time there so would love to have a good idea on where to look.

With a $200k budget, and wanting to have a detached space for Airbnb, I think you need to look in Clay county, however I doubt you would make money with an Airbnb out there.

$200k in an area where you can make money renting it out nightly would be a small condo in Jacksonville now. It is no longer a bargain spot.

Yeah, 200k isn't going to cut it. Plus the best way to anger your new neighbors is to announce you're opening an AirBnB.

Bad plan all around.
