Mayo Residency, Jax Housing, schools and kids (to rent, house)

Hi everyone,
My family and I are considering Mayo-Jax for medical residency next year. Still lots of water to cover between now and then, however, with a family of 6 people, we need to plan in order to Rank residencies.

My question is, with 2 in grade school, one almost in grade school and a toddler, with a budget of about $1500.00/mo or less for housing, what kind of places should we be looking at to rent that would be within 20min of Mayo, have good schools, be safe for a family (where kids can go outside without their parents)? Or, should we look to buy and if so, would we get in a better neighborhood?

You don't have to look far at all. Mayo is located in a very nice area of the city and you should be able to rent a house for $1500 right in the vicinity. The schools for your grade schooler tend to be very good as well (usually A-rated elementary schools right there in the Mayo area).

So I would start your search looking right there in the 32224 zip code. If you need to fan out from there, add 32246 & 32225 - these will still be in very good commuting distance to Mayo and very much along the same lines as 32224.
