How is public transportation in Jacksonville? Would a car be a necessity? Just curious. Thank you!

Yes, a car is a necessity because it takes a long time to get anywhere on a bus.

About as necessary as oxygen . Public transportation here is pretty dismal. We have it, but you'd rather not rely on it if you can at all help it.

A good running car is something you'd want if you lived here, even if you are able to use public transportation some of the time.

Default car is a must

Definitely need a car. This is big city so cab rides become expensive and as said above takes long time on bus.

Is the bus system reliable? Where I am going to live, I can walk 1/4 mile to the bus stop, take that bus for a 30 minute ride and walk another 1/4 mile to work. Since it only costs $1, it'll work out great for me. I'll only have to drive to work when my rotation includes the weekend.

Here is a link to the bus system:
Jacksonville Transportation Authority - Transportation Services - Bus Services (broken link)

I have not heard of it being very reliable, I had friends that used it a few years back. Maybe it has gotten better, I am sure someone else will be able to chime in.
