So I'm a filthy New Yorker looking to escape the liberal madness of my state. Just came back from a great vacation at Ponte Vedre Beach, first time I ever visited the Northern Florida area. I liked what I saw so I am contemplating a permanent move. I was under the assumption that PVB and the suburban Jacksonville area was red. However, my wife was playing tennis with a Florida local at PVB Inn and Club where we were staying, and that person told my wife that kids in school were masked the entire year last year. However, my wife did not catch what school district this person was talking about but we assumed it was PVB since she was using the PVB Inn and Club. So whats the deal with masks and schools at PVB?

I'm a doctor myself and I think unless you are wearing an N95 mask (which is effective for airborne viruses), any other type of face cover is just political theater. And mask mandates for the vaccinated is even more comical political theater. But since I am mandated to wear masks at work, I don't find it such a big deal, even for my kids. My wife however, is a total anti-mask Karen so she was surprised about hearing this since we assumed Florida was the land of freedom.

It is optional for St Johns Co students this year. I've heard anecdotally from the first few days that about half of the kids and all teachers/staff are wearing masks.

I'm still amazed people consider wearing masks political.

Virus sized particles will pass right through any cloth/paper mask. Sure the cloth/paper will stop particulate matter, snot, droplets, etc, but airborne virus will go right through.

Only N95 or higher rated filters can effectively prevent virus sized particles.
If you walk into any hospital COVID ward with just a paper mask, you will be thrown right out unless you have an N95 on.

Its science, not politics, unless everything they taught me in medical school was wrong.
Mandating people to wear an ineffective piece of paper on their face is pure politics.

My son attends one of the 2 elementary schools in PVB and yes, both schools were masked last year and is optional this year as Florida2014 alluded to. My son told me most of his classmates are masked. He noted 2 maybe 3 out of 18 in his class are not wearing masks.

Last year's mask was optional or mandated?

Politics by whom, exactly? Florida is a Republican run state and it was mandated last year that all students had to wear masks. We also had to wear masks indoors in restaurants, gyms, bars, movie theaters, etc. Looks like you're attempting to point blame at one party for this, "Doctor."

I don't even know how to respond to such rubbish. Did you learn that on Youtube or FoxNews?

Can you say with a straight face that Biden would have won if COVID was never a thing? I'm not claiming HE had anything to do with it (first hand) but be real....there's really no way he would have won.

Anyways to the OP, cmon down you'll love it here. Half of the people that live here are from NY. It's kinda like South Florida but it's North
