My wife and I are seriously considering a move to Jacksonville from Seattle. We are also considering San Diego, and Minnesota. We really want the beach life. I play beach volleyball, and I really want to surf. We spent a few days in Jacksonville (Jacksonville beach, neptune beach etc.) and really liked it. That being said it lacked the "beach vibe" In California all the beach neigborhoods they have a vibe. I know that is rather vague, but if you live somewhere that has that attitude you will know what I mean. Does anyone know if Jacksonville has that "vibe"

Well, there's really no comparison to either of the towns you have mentioned. Obviously Minnesota doesn't have surf or a "beach".

I know San Diego very well, my parents lived there and I visited often, and I grew up in California.

If the primary reason for your move is surf and volleyball, this is really a no-brainer. It has to be SD hands down.

If you want a good quality of life at an affordable price, and some surf occasionally, as well as a lot of volleyball, then you should consider Jacksonville, or another part of the Atlantic coast where home prices are affordable for the most part, unlike San Diego, and the pace is considerably laid back as opposed to California.

You should know that Jacksonville is a much more conservative town than Seattle, and of course California. It also cost a lot less to live here, and there is no state income tax.

Excellent reply thanks. Where is the volleyball in Jacksonville? Is there a popular spot locally. When I was there I could not find anybody playing.

Take a look at this website that I found: Jacksonville Volleyball Club
Like posted already, if you are looking for beach, surf and volleyball, you'll have (a must) look at San Diego or Jacksonville, FL area. You for sure won't find a "surf" in Minn., but you possibly could find a nice lake beach and volleyball there.......in the summer only of course!!

i grew up playing beach vb in jax and we used to play at the old holiday inn and then in front of comfort inn, as well as various apartment complexes througout the cooler months. now the permanent courts are set up by the new pier at 4th ave north and there's supposed to be a volly complex somewhere in south jax beach i believe. loveboating gave a great website with info that wil tell you where to go. there are a few very good players in jax, but i would think sand diego will give you even better comp with a more "beachy" feel.

it used to really clicky when i was starting out, but i think it's alot easier now. Just show up at the courts by the pier and ask to get into a game. it'll be easier if you get there early when people are looking for someone, or later when people start leaving.

ditto, compared to the NJ shore the beach vibe here in JAX is a bit lame, but then again I rarely go to JAX beach for the beach
