Can you tell me about these magnet schools? I would really like to move to the St. Augustine/Jax area but I am worried about a good school. My daughter is doing extremely well in school here so I am most concerned about schools.

Thank you!

those magnet schools are in duval, the 3 high schools you'd probably be zoned for in the area you are looking at are ranked well, Nease was 89 and ST Augustine HS was around 420 something. and betram trail was ranked high also (forgot the number)

Be aware though, it's tough to get into one of the nationally ranked magnet program high schools, even if you've gone to middle school in Duval County. In order to guarantee entrance the student usually has to be accepted into the International Baccalaureate Program. Otherwise, the students are choosen by the lottery system and good luck with that. If your daughter doesn't get into one of the better magnets also be aware that the other high schools suffer from "brain drain" created by the magnet program.

Personally, I've had a great experience with one of my children and a horrible one with the other in terms of the public schools here. I am a product of the Duval County Publis School System, but things were much different back then.

Not to appear dumb but could you explain what you mean by "Brain Drain" created by the magnet program. ????

the best, smartest, brightest kids go to the magnets, leaving the average, mediocre and just plain dumb ones to the "regular" schools
