I'd like to have a detached garage (about 1,000 sqft) built in our back yard soonish. I'm looking for any recommendations for general contractors that you've had good experiences with.

We're not sure if we want to go with a traditional wood/concrete block building or a metal building, so either type of contractor recommendation would be great. Thanks.

Call Pete Dowling with Dowling Construction. His number is 904-219-8044. He's is as honest as any of the small contractors I've ever met, and has been around for over 20 years. I recommend standard wood framing since the cost of concrete is skyrocketing, as is the cost of steel, which you will need for the rebar inside a block wall.

Metal is more of a commercial construction technique, and will cost you more with having to put the Densglass on the exterior and so forth. But hey, if money is no object, let's talk about me putting a storm shelter in that garage for you! (Moderators...I apologize for the shameless self promotion, but I am in construction...can you blame me with the way housing is these days?)

Hope this helps!

And by the way, I would however, recommend getting the minimum 3 quotes from 3 different contractors also. I could recommend a ton of others that are all good as well if you need more.
