I don't see a vast numer of Vanity Plates in this area (ie 2FST4U, EATDST, etc).

I also don't see as many folks with specialized plates (ie colleges, teams, etc) for a city this big.

Is there a reason?

I got a Manatee plate since my daughter likes them.

I don't know.. I don't see many specialized plates either, though at my high school, the back windows of cars are all filled with either a gators or seminole decal. (:

It is a stark contrast from Virginia where a large number of people have the personalized plates.

I used to live in Virginia and I had specialized and vanity plate. The reason? It was about $10 per year for specialized and $10 for vanity. I don't know how much it is in Florida, but I bet it's much more than VA and that's why there are fewer around.

The vanity tags aren't as common here, but when I see one with the green letters over the oranges it looks bad, the colors mixed. I do like the options we have for turtles, sharks, dolphins, bears, activities, pro teams and schools.

I like the John Lennon Imagine plate.

I was kidding with my wife that when I get her tag it will be a Golf Florida Tag.

But FL got tons of different specialized plates...ranging from $25~35 I think, check www.dmv (broken link)florida.org. Vanity plate can be checked for availability too, pretty convenient.

in addition to costing more up front, vanity tags cost more (I think my dh is about $30 more) per year when you renew.
