Thanks, agreatlife. Fortunately it's not my only vehicle but I do need a 4X4 just for the beach. They don't let you drive onto the beaches in St. Johns with anything else. But living in Jax you do need two sets of wheels.

Still a new transmission at 60K miles is definitely not normal, even for a JGC.

well since it is far for the op this may not apply, but for anyone it is convenient to, tom at ortega automotive has been in business forever and he does a really good job. he does work on all sorts of cars from pintos to rolls royces and has a nice shop and an excellent staff, and definitely not too pricey. he is off of san juan and hamilton on the westside near ortega. i am all for supporting independent businesses and mom and pops and it is pretty hard to beat tom, he is well known

I did not know that! Are you saying you have to have 4 wheel drive to go on the beach? Really? I did not read that on the web site. Since I just moved to Saint Augustine, on my list of things to do was to get stickers for our vehicles. I'll be very bummed if we cannot.

I have seen the sign at the entrance say something like "4-wheel drive only" but I have also seen all kinds of vehicles on the beach so it may just be a precautionary sign to enter at your own risk. I don't believe the attendant will actually bar you so that quote may be a bit of an overstatement. I would go ahead and get the stickers.

...just stay on the hard-packed sand if you don't have 4x4, you can definitely get stuck .

Laz_d - thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to call or drive to see John tomorrow. I'm back down in Jacksonville this week and my son's car needs a front wheel alignment and front break pads/turn down rotors. Hope to God this doesn't cost me an arm and a leg lol
