Hello everyone,

I am contemplating moving to Jacksonville due to my job. However, I don’t know much about Jacksonville, except that it’s the home of the Jaguars!

Regarding my job opportunity, I do know that my work place would be 701 San Marco Blvd.

At first I would just like to rent an apartment as close as possible to work. How much should I expect to pay for a 2BR/2BA apartment in a good neighborhood? Could you give me examples of cost and commute time?

Also, in the not-so-distant future I would like to buy a starting home (less than $200k), so I have a few questions:

Which are good neighborhoods to buy a single-family home near San Marco Blvd (short commute)?

I have read that for people that like homes in the country, the best option is Baldwin? Is this accurate? How long would be the commute from this or a similar area to San Marco Blvd

I will greatly appreciate any information. Thanks!

Baldwin? Seriously?

You're going to be working on the Southbank, just north of San Marco Square - this is a very desirable area. There are some apartment and condo rentals in San Marco that should suit you fine for your rental period. As a bonus, you'll be in the center of some of Jacksonville's nightlife, boutiques, galleries, some of our best restaurants, etc.

When you're ready for a starter home for under $200k, look to the southern end of 32207 - the same zip code you'll be working in. At the southern end of 32207, you'll find the Mirimar, Ridgewood and Lakewood neighborhoods. With the recent downturn in real estate, you should be able to find a nice house under the $200k mark. Your commute to work would be about 10 minutes, 15 at the most.

Baldwin is an unincorporated part of Duval county, which means they have a different tax base and I believe their own police force, etc. If you lived in Baldwin and worked on the Southbank, you'd have to commute via I10 which is not considered a good commute (lots of complaints about I10).

If you want a country atmosphere, you can go in a lot of directions. There are rural areas, and Baldwin is one, and there are spots well inside the city where you can find big lots, etc. It's not impossible to find acre lots well inside the city, you just have to poke around.

I would hesitate to endorse Baldwin just because your commute would be a TOTAL nightmare. Think about the northside of town for a rural lifestyle and use either Main St,(US 17), 9A or I95 S to get into town. Bwest of luck!
