mayor peyton, and moreso jta want to spend upwards of a billion dollars of our taxpayer money for mass transportation. sounds good right? well his plan is for busses to run in their own lanes, often following the highways, and often going where people dont. the cost is high because when it follows the highways, elevated structures have to be built. does anyone want to ride the bus to work? o wait, we already have busses that nobody rides. busses have that...connotation. i have ridden them in jacksonville, and it was fine, but if there were rail near my house and traffic was bad on the highways (if there were one near me), then i would prefer rail, which is surprisingly cheaper than this BRT system and easier to put together. The city is not publicizing their plan because they know voters would knock it down, although there have been a couple small times union articles.

this system will cost $600 million to $1 billion to implement, and take over 20 years to complete, and right now do we really need mass transportation, possibly, there are smaller cities with commuter rail already, and most cities our size are getting commuter rail (not BRT).

the big question is, if the city council passes this and we are left to foot the bill, will we actually ride this glorified bus system?

why not make simple and cheap improvements to our already existing bus system like covered bus stops (i always see people waiting in the rain), maybe this would logically attract more ridership as it becomes more convenient, also allow companies to advertise on these covered bus stops...most cities reap in money from this but our city banned this, weird. also, half of ones bus ride takes place downtown because u transfer at the transfer station near FCCJ downtown, which i might add is connected to skyway, and then the bus has to make an uber slow loop all the way around downtown before leaving for the destination. why not just go straight to the route and downtown users can actually now use the skyway and trolley service to get to the transfer station if necessary...way to force use out of the taxpayer dollar wasted services that currently sit vacant.

this city needs progress at least to catch up with all the other cities our size, we dont need to be stuck in the 60s and 70s
