Our neighborhood has a 22 acre lake and we are accepting bids for lake treatment. The lake is in very good shape, but in the past few years, the frogs have gone. A resident is concerned that the chemicals have poisoned them, as we rarely hear any in the spring any more. People swim in the lake and some eat fish that they catch.

We have a DEP permit, so I am assuming that means that whatever is being applied chemical-wise has been veted by the state.

Where would we take a water sample to be analysed? What is a ballpark amount we could expect to pay for this?

If you have a lake that is being serviced, would you DM me with the good, the bad and the ugly of the company that you use?

All input is invited- Thanks!

What are you treating the lake for? general weeds - submersed or emergent, algae? If you give me more details I may be able to make some recommendatios for you.

Also how deep is the lake?

I would also make sure that the contractor that completes the work uses certified aquatic herbicide applicators?

The frogs could be gone for hundreds of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with your herbicide treatments. Water quality testing is fairly cheap; I am not from Jax so I cannot recommend a firm, but I would guess there is lots of people in the business.

The reports say-
sprayed for algae & grass, sprayed grasses in lake, bladderwort, alligator weed

Not sure how deep the lake is.

I do not know how deep the lake is or the answers to your other questions. I am going to pose these questions to the company now treating the lake. Are the additional questions I should ask? I appreciate your input!
