I just read today that Trader Joe's will be opening a store in Gainesville. See the link here:

Trader Joe's going into Butler Plaza Central | Gainesville.com

The article does not say when the store will open, but I would imagine it would be in the next 6 months or so.

That is good stuff. My wife and I will be making a trip there for sure.

It is funny how they have done this. The first store opened in Naples, the next in Sarasota, and now the third in Gainesville. They have avoided Miami, Tampa (although Sarasota is next door), Orlando and Jacksonville. I am assuming they will fill in from there, but I have never seen a strategy like that before.

It's only in the rumour stages, but I have heard they were scouting locations in south Tampa for a new store. Nothing has been announced yet, though.

I visited Trader Joes while out of town and don't see the huge appeal - Jax has a Whole Foods and a couple of Fresh Market stores, as well as local natural retailers Grassroots and Native Sun. So there are already lots of places for that type of food.

I visited Trader Joe's in Gainesville this past weekend and spoke to one of the employees there about opening a store in Jacksonville. He said that the next stores will be in Tallahassee, Orlando, Miami area, and Jacksonville will be next year. I hope he is right.
