WIth the way the market is right now, the prices have come down quite a bit. THIS is the time to buy NICE homes at the beach, because people will ALWAYS like the beach!
Many neighborhoods have community pools and activities. Most the golf communities are gated, but there are plenty of other very nice neighborhoods that are not gated. If you go WEST across the intercoastal bridge 5 minutes away, the homes go down about $80-100,000 in price, and those are still nice areas.
The best thing I do for my relocation clients is show them ALL the "areas", because it's all about the "feel" you get driving around, with trees, traffic, with the shopping, things to do, etc. There will be plenty of homes available to choose from, when you narrow down the areas.

Where are you moving from? I used to live in Temecula/ Murrieta. My brothers in Encinitas and Riverside. I LOVED California...but Jacksonville is the next best!!!

It is still early in the game for us (we probably won't buy a home till end of the year) so all the details of what we are looking for is not ironed out. But we do know we are looking for a nice home maybe $400,000-700,000, possibly about 2000 sq ft (?). We have 2 kids so we want a family-friendly neighborhood with some nice nearby activities. We are coming from La Canada Flintridge, California, which is a very nice area as well. Temecula/Murrieta area is great too. I wish we didn't have to go. But from the numerous postings in this forum, I can tell Jax is nice too.

And thanks, Karla for the link on the YMCA. Do you know if they have kid's gymnastics and swimming classes there? Both of my kids are already into that and would love to continue those classes.

How about public schools there in PVB? I know they are good but do the residents still decide to send their kids to private school? Where I'm living now, even the very wealthy residents all send their kids to public because the schools are so good.

Thank you guys again for all the info--it's really helping my anxiety level which is very high right now. The stress is making me ramble on too. Thanks for bearing with me.

Your welcome momgoingtojax
I am not sure exactly what they offer hopefully the link will be able to provide more information.
A friend of mine lived in Ponte Vedra with her twin girls I do know that they were constantly busy with different activities through school and the Y

You going to be able to get a lot more than 2000 sq ft in your price range.
The housing market is very different here.

When you are ready there are quite a few long standing members here that can personally recommend a very good Realtor that will be able to help you in your search for a home not just a house.

I really appreciate that. Thank you. I will probably send you a message when the details of the move solidify. Thanks again to everyone.

400-700 Gs should get you a lot of house, even in PVB.

You guys like to golf? I think you'll love it here...

Very encouraging, thank you. My husband is a golf-FANATIC and takes pride in playing die-hard golf in the rain/wind/whatever. I am busy taking care of the 2 little ones but look forward to getting some lessons with the kids once the kids are old enough, maybe 5 years old?

I've come across Julington Creek on the the realty sites as well and have added that area to the list of places to visit when I come to Florida to have a looksy (probably not until the summer). Julington Creek seems like a nice area for families as well.
