I am 27 years of age and planning on relocating to JAX from northern MI. I am pursing a new business venture and plan to move this fall. My girlfriend(29) and I don't know the area at all and plan on visiting in March, but could use some advice. We are both active people who enjoy all outdoor activities and an active night life. We are not down town people, and we have a dog. I was looking into the beach area's, Atlantic, Neptune and JAX. Which of these areas is the best? I've also heard that most of the action and new development is south of the city? Other suggestons?

Any advice would help tremendously, what is the best way to see the city?

Thanks.

I highly recommend Jax beach/neptune beach and Atlantic beach (the area of atl. beach near neptune). They are all very close to one another (within a couple miles) and have cool little shops and entertainment very close by.

The neptune beach towncenter, and downtown jax beach have nice dining and shops. Once again, living anywhere in the above towns are all so close together that you can enjoy the amenities of all of them.

There are great outdoor parks nearby as well. Hannah Park in north atl. beach is a beautiful park on the beach with trails for walking/biking/camping. THere is also Guana park about 10-15 minutes south of Jax beach which also has great trails and camping etc.

The southside of town is the most progressive for shops and new developments. It is mostly suburban. The beaches communities are all withing 10-20 minute of southside.

many other recent threads have very helpfull info that you should look through as well. Hope this helps

I've found that the Jax area is quite dog-friendly. There are a number of off-leash dog parks, dogs are allowed on the beach (Jax Beach, for example, you can bring your leashed pooch before 9 am and after 5 pm), and they're welcome at the national parks and forests (Timucuan for one).

The only way to see the First Coast is to drive around - no real public transportation other than the bus. A map of Duval County is about all you need.

Before your visit, check out some of the activities going on. A couple of resources for that:
