The city is beautiful with the St. Johns River running through it and there are so many interesting places along the river. Can anyone tell me more about the Water Taxi services? IMO this could really be promoted and utilized so much more! I can imagine what a thriving water taxi service would really do for this town - whether serving as real transportation for some or as a pleasure boat ride for others! I think the services stops at several points downtown, including the stadium, as well as San Marco but there should also be a dock/stop at the new Riverside Art Market, and perhaps further south to Mandarin area. Anyone know the costs, schedules, and why the heck this isn't promoted more?! Seems like a no-brainer money-making opportunity to me....

as far as RAM goes, they're negotiating the terms...not sure how long that will take though.

From what I heard, the water taxi operators wanted $1000 to run to RAM, and the organizers decided that money would be better spent elsewhere. If the RAM continues to pull in such large numbers of visitors, maybe the asking price to run the taxis will go down.

Why would the taxi operators charge the venue operators to add a stop to the RAM? They are the ones missing out on the opportunity! You would think they could easily project increased revenue dollars they would make with the added 'entertainment value' of taking a river ride. I think it makes sense to add the option to get to the RAM via river taxi - to avoid the crowds and parking as well. Other stops served by the river taxi service might also enjoy increased business on RAM days!

They wanted to charge because I'm sure the overhead costs for operating a new stop once are higher than we may think...and they'd only get to use it once a week. I agree, though, that if the RAM pulls in such a large crowd on a weekly basis, they will certainly make a profit. Anyway, just sit tight. If the numbers stay up I'm sure this will get done very soon. Remember, it's easy for us to say since it's not our money making the principal investment.
