Thanks again all! KVIT, it's great that you found something - wow that's a LOT of resumes you sent out. We have 2 kids so we will be looking to rent a house, but the rents seem reasonable 1200-1400/mo. Clay county schools look good and so do St-Johns county ones. Guess its a leap of faith but I'm feeling more positive about it now.

$1200-1400 can get you something pretty nice down here... You should be able to get a pretty substantial townhouse for that much money or even a smaller single family home... The cost of living down here is a life changer and don't forget about not having state income tax...

From working in IT staffing here in Jax for over 4 years, I can tell you that it is tougher to find employment when you are applying from out of state unless you have a very difficult to find skill. Analysts typically do pretty well here in Jacksonville but the TN visa may very well limit the options available. Considering the local unemployment, most companies will prefer to hire someone local so less to worry about before they start to consider someone from out of state. The sad thing is that some of them have inexperienced people screening resumes and don't even know if you are already on the way here since they hardly call the candidates that apply.

I think he should do ok down here, especially if he also keeps contracting open as an option. Once you are down here let me know and I'll put him in contact with some IT recruiters around town that may be able to help him out.

Thanks so much! I will definitely send you a message once we are down. My work visa apparently will not allow me to start before October 1st so it will be a few months yet.
