Hello~ Haven't been on the forum in a while, still making progress towards my move :-) Can you please offer me names and locations of the best (in your opinion):OBGYN, Pediatrician, Dentist, Primary Care Physician and Allergist; in the Mandarin, St John's and Bartram Park (or surrounding areas?) I have information regarding Dr. Lang and Dr. Katz, so if you know of them and would like to give your feedback, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I thought all Dentists where the same, but they are not, so pick carefully. I will tell you my Dentist story and offer up my Dentist.

First I moved from Baltimore to here and I see my Dentist every 6 months. Last time I saw my Baltimore Dentist there were no issues with my teeth.

When I first came here, I went to a Dentist and they said I need 6 Crowns, plus replace my existing crown. I seriously doubt in less than a year I all of a sudden needed 6 crowns. Plus they told me I need to extract my wisdom teeth and I needed a Deep Cleaning; at a cost that exceeded $13,000.

Seriously did she need to buy a new Lexus?

Anyway, before spending over $13,000 for dental work, I thought I should get a second opinion. This time I did a little research on the web and looked for a dentist that had good recommendations. For my second opinion, I went to Dr. James Kilcoyne, DDS located on Bay Meadows. I had my x-rays from the 1st dentist sent to the 2nd dentist so both dentists were looking at the same x-rays. The second dentist did his oral exam and stated I had one cavity on a tooth that already had a large filling and he recommended a crown. That was it.

I prefer a conservative Dentist over a proactive Dentist. If you are looking for a Dentist who is the cosmetic Dentist to the stars and works in a fancy office then this would not be your guy.

Not to hijack you thread, but I am also looking for a Primary Care Physician. I am a bit of a health nut, so if anyone has a Primary Care Physician that is knowledgeable about alternative medicines and the importance of diet and vitamins over drugs I would appreciate the name. You know a Dr Oz in Jacksonville. .

Hello all~ I didn't want to begin a totally new thread, so I decided to add on to this one. If anyone is familiar with Jacksonville Pediatrics (near Southside Blvd.) or Pediatric Care Center, please give your opinions! They were both recommended, thanks!

Interesting, I had the same experience with a dentist when we moved here. I had been to my dentist in our former city in August, 2012, and by March, 2013 I needed root scaling, two fillings replaced, a crown removed and replaced, and gum surgery "immediately" with more fillings to follow. She also mentioned a bunch of cosmetic work that she "recommended"-primarily Invisalign to correct a gap between my front teeth that stopped bothering me in high school and is now as much a part of my face as my eyes or fair skin. She was skeptical that I really didn't want to "fix" something that I actually like. I got my second opinion from Dr. John R. Holland in Ortega on the recommendation of a coworker, and he advised that I have what he calls a "maintenance situation" because I have a lot of metal fillings of varying age, which will eventually crack (although none of them are at this time). The crown isn't perfect but also isn't causing any issues, so it can definitely wait until insurance will cover it again. No root scaling or gun surgery needed anytime in the foreseeable future. We'll be working on a plan to prioritize filling replacement when I see him next for my 6 month cleaning and checkup. SO HAPPY I got that second opinion! Ortega isn't convenient to work or home for me, but so worth it for someone who's honest.

When I first arrived in Jacksonville I went out and looked for a dentist to get my teeth cleaned and after the exam was told I needed about $10,000 worth of dental work. I immeadiatly got up and left. I went back to my sisters and called my old dentist back in Butte, MT and asked him how my teeth could have gone from almost perfect to all F'd up in the 9 months since I had last seen him.
And he replied there was no way unless I happened to catch a wayward 3 iron from a student square in the choppers. Then he laughed and told me to check out what cars were parked in the dentists reserved parking area. And choose a dentist who drove a Ford or Chevy sedan/SUV or P/U. So I went back by the dentists office looked in the parking area and saw a brand new BMW 7 series in one reserved spot and an older Porsche 911 in the other spot. (but not to much older) I have since gone to Margaret Romero on 5th street out here in Macclenny and been very happy. She drives a Ford Fusion. Now I just need to find someone in Jacksonville when I move there next month.
