Hello,
I am seriously considering taking a job in Jacksonville. I have only been there once and am visiting next week but in the meantime I'd like to get some preliminary suggestions on areas to research. From what I can tell my job would be near the corner of Phillips Highway and 202....I know absolutely nothing about traffic in Jax, or which areas are hardest to get to.

I am looking to rent, preferably a 2 bedroom, non-highrise, as close to $1000 a month as possible. I live alone so definitely want something safe, dog-friendly, near shopping, restaurants, etc., but also a reasonable commute to work. Any suggestions for general areas to look in? Thanks in advance....

There are a lot of nice apartments in that area. Following 202 towards the beach there are numerous apartments, pick any of them and you'd be pretty safe. The other road to check is A.C. Skinner Parkway. You might be able to find some brand new ones. It will be an easy area to get to everywhere, downtown, to work, to the beach, and to the new mall. *Find the new mall and work your way back to your job and you'll see plenty of apartments that will put you in a nice area.

Great, thanks. What's the name of the new mall? Any names of apartment complexes you are familiar with? Also, what about townhomes/condos, do you think there are any in that price range not too far from there?

The new mall is called St. Johns Town Center. I can't help you with the names of the apartments, I've never lived in them but they're all about the same in my opinion. You can drive around when you get here and just pick one. The only condos I'm familiar with are the Reserve at James Island. It's off Gate Parkway. It's gated and quiet. The management tho' is getting on my nerves lately with "take the flowers off the door or get a fine" letter BUT we love it there otherwise. They have rentals. There's also a condo area called Georgetown near the new mall, they look nice. When you see Costco from 202, that road is called Gate Parkway, go either direction and you can find nice apartments. The condo places are hurting to sell things so most of them have rentals also.
