Was coming home through the state park here, and there he was, a black bear, meandering along the road. I watched him for about 5 minutes and then he headed into the woods. He either swam here or took the bridge, nobody knows for sure.

That's pretty cool. I bet you were more surprised than he was. You did a good job of capturing his picture.

Thanks Sunny.
With me you never know. All I have is a little point and shoot, and even it is too complicated for me.
I took a bunch of pics, some of them a bit crisper than this one, but he was going further and further away. He wasn't really hurrying, though, he was just kind of meandering along.

That's really cool. The newspaper said that people were reporting the bear sightings and tracking its whereabouts. That bear looks hungry, not very chubby.

To me, black bears always look skinnier than the other kinds, but he might well be a hungry youngster trying to make his way in the world.
He seemed very gentle, but if he is hungry, he might end up getting into trouble. This island is only about 13 miles long and 4 miles wide.

Me and everyone else on that road. (There was another woman there, and then a truck coming the other way, he slowed down.)
We (and the bear) were within a few yards of the entrance to the state park, which is just across the street from one of the sightings listed in that July 24th article you posted. I also mentioned it to a police officer I saw on the way home. This is a very small town on a small island, news travels quickly.

Hopefully the bear will have a happy ending and stay safe. He's looking for love on Amelia Island.
