I know there have been threads started about this topic, but I thought I would check again. I think I'm going to get my car windows tinted next week.

Has anyone used a local company that they would recommend or not recommend?

We use Tint Specialist on St. Johns Bluff. They've done several of our cars, no problems. I've called them in the morning and the car is done in the afternoon.

Do they tint it dark? I don't want it so dark that I will get arrested, but I would like it so that people can see there's a person in the car, but they can't necessarily identify me.

They will tint it however you like. Two of our cars are tinted 15% which is the darker one, hard to see in. One is tinted 18% which is a little lighter, you can see more. I'd go for the 18% if you like it lighter.

I don't know if its true but I've heard that one company's 15% might not be the same as another company's 15% tint. One could be darker or lighter, it just depends on the company making it.

Thats not exactly true the percentage is measured by how much light gets through and there are tools to measure it... The one thing you have to look out for is that windows come tinted from the factory at 70% so you have to get tint that would add up to a total of 20%...

It's been over a year and I cannot remember the exact name, but I believe we got my sons' windows tinted at:

Automotive & Marine Window Film Jacksonville, Yulee

Beach Blvd - past Kernan I believe. He "convinced" me that it just wasn't worth paying money to tint....if it wasn't Limo tint
"kids". 11 months later and he hasn't been pulled over...oh wait, yes he did get pulled over...speeding on the way to school - ...but didn't get a ticket for the tint, nor asked to remove it.
Good luck and get what you want the first time
