Hi All,

Would someone help confirm how much a person should earn p.a to have a decent living with a family, schooling, weekends and some savings for investments/savings?

have googled and found the average is 60-70 K p.a,person with same experience as mine and need to know from people who are actually reciding in Jax and gave me feedback/figures.

Will help me plan whether should move with my family, with the offer given by my IT company (a figure quoted in the above range) because it sounds less !! Thanks

There are a couple of sites where you can input your current location and salary and then input a future location and it will calculate what you need to make in the new location.

Here's just a couple:
Cost of living: Compare prices in two cities - CNNMoney.com
Salary.com's Cost of Living Wizard Tool

Thanks

but Im moving from India and there is huge difference of salries paid here vis-a-vis US. Hence the calculator will not be helpful for me!

Any other way to give me a ballpark figure would be helpful. Thanks

If you're earning $60-70,000 annually, you'll be living comfortably in most places here in Jacksonville.

This can be a challenging question to answer, unless we have more information. Are you planning to buy a home when you arrive, or shortly after arrival? On what side of town will you reside? How many people do you have in your family? What ages are they? How many vehicles will your family need (or want) to own? These are just a few questions, without getting too personal.

Thanks for your response. Quick snapshot -
Me,Spouse and a 3 yr old kid
Renting a house
Buy 1 second hand car
my office is nearby 32256 and maybe something nearby but depends on pre school for my kid
all these with decent & safe living, plus some savings for my parents (around 10 K) + maybe 2 holidays a year !!

Now would you be able to answer how much should I be earning p.a to cover the above aspects? Thanks and God bless

Based on what info you've provided, $60-70k is more than sufficient to live comfortably. You can rent a nice, 3-bedroom house in the Mandarin or Southside areas for $1200-1400 (possibly cheaper). (zip codes 32223, 32257, 32258, 32256, 32224) You may even be able to have some community amenities. Buying a used car is a smart move, just to keep your entry costs down.

Hi, Moving in Oct but will move my family in nov once I sort out house and schooling.

Would need some phone numbers/person who could introduce me to an Indian community where lot of Indian families stay with kids, safe place, near 32256 (my office), good pre schools and groceries around. Maybe a park for kids also.

I would not prefer a self owned house but a society with lot of flats , families with kids around specially Indians since they could guide us with things around and make my family comfortable.

As per Eric's suggestion above, Southside is a good place with Indians but I just want to make sure its safe! Please give me some phone numbers/intro's etc..

Thanks and God bless
