Have never seen any tubing or wakeboarding on the ICW, but have seen some waverunners on it. Parts of the boating area on the ICW in Jax is fairly narrow, while other parts are wider. Have also seen waverunners launch from Julington Creek/Mandarin Park and Goodby's Landing next to the St. John's River. A lot of tubing is done in Julington Creek area, but have seen boats w/tubes on them launch from Goodby's Landing also. Some wakeboarding is done on the St. John's River. From what we can tell, when on our boat, the river and ICW are mainly used for fishing and cruising.

IMHO, one of the main "dangers" with any kinda of tubing or skiing in the ICW is the possibility of hitting shallow water. You're also much more likely to run into an oyster bed, which could be just inches below the surface. Be careful!!

We have never seen gators on the sides of the river, but were told that they do lay along the banks of the creeks that go into the river. Someone on this Forum posted a reply saying that they do tubing on Julington Creek and have seen gators relaxing along the banks of that creek. Looking from the top of the Beach Blvd ICW bridge, we have never seen anyone tubing on that part of the ICW. Have never seen anyone tubing directly on the river either.....only the areas leading out to the river. Now, we have seen, while visiting the Ponce De Leon Inlet, some people tubing along the ICW there where there are sand islands to beach a boat at.
Have not seen anyone water skiing here at all!!
