Not much to look at or do with in sight of the entrance, the river is only about a block away however. Also parking is an issue.

The Riverside location is in the middle of a pleasant shopping & dining area, also parking is not an issue.
Very true, fsu, very true. In my mind, the river being right there was a huge plus. Also, being much closer to San Marco square than the riverside one is to Five Points also swayed me that way. Riverside's strip is nice as well.

i was referencing the shopping & dining area that is directly across from the Riverside European Street, not 5 Points.

There is a BBQ spot, Cool Moose cafe, italian restuarnt, 3 antiques stores, comic book shop, clothing store, salon, city cycle, and a few other shopping options directly across from the Euro Street restauarnt, and Walgreens, another antique shop, a local drug store, pet groomer, Kickbacks bar, Walkers bar, & Parkplace bar, & deli, and 2 fast food joints are just a block or three away, well with-in walking distance.

the Whiteway shopping area, in Riverside.

You can buy many of the imports they serve there. They carry some that are even hard to find at Total Wine (like Blackened Voodoo - I haven't seen that at Total Wine but European Street always has it).

For those like myself who are not into German food, there are choices like hummus, tabouli, a nut/grape/cheese plate, etc.

Now that you've discovered one of the treasures of San Marco, be sure to check out The Grotto, Metro Diner (you've got to see this place! talk about charm!), bb's and all the other great little gems of San Marco .
yes and being a beer nut, I made a note to myself to go back. Prices are a tad steep in the store, but worth rewarding myself.

Where is Metro Diner?

Where is Metro Diner?

Just south of where you were at European Street:

Metro Diner

And since you liked Bold City Brewery's beer that you drank at European Street, you can check out Bold City's small bar inside their brewery. It's in Riverside on Roselle Street. It's sort of a destination location since it's located in an industrial area, but it's worth checking out:
