WE JUST MOVED DOWN TO THE JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA AREA FROM PITTSBURGH PA ABOUT 1 MONTH AGO. WE ARE CURRENTLY LIVING IN PONTE VEDRA BEACH. THE AREA IS VERY NICE (I PICKED THIS AREA BECAUSE I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND THE SCHOOLS ARE HIGHLY RATED). ALTHOUGH IT IS NICE, I REALLY FEEL THAT THERE IS NOT MUCH GOING ON AROUND HERE. I FEEL KIND OF ISOLATED ACTUALLY. I REALLY HAPPEN TO LIKE THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN AREA OF ST. AUGUSTINE AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO ACTUALLY LIVE THERE. WHAT ARE THE SCHOOLS LIKE IN THE AREA. I KNOW THEY ARE ST JOHNS COUNTY SCHOOLS BUT WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE EXACT SCHOOLS MY CHILDREN WOULD ATTEND, ELEMENTARY THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. ANY ADVICE FROM ANYONE REGARDING THIS? THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP IN ADVANCE!!

Downtown St. Augustine has gotten very expensive, so that's one consideration.

I had a friend who lived in a small house downtown and she loved it. Her only complaints were flooding. Some of the older streets down there can flood, so that's something to look out for.

If Ponte Vedra is a little too quiet, have you thought of moving just a bit north to Jax Beach (or Atlantic or Neptune)?

p.s.: To know the exact schools, you'll need an address. With an address, you can call the St. John's County School Board and they will tell you the schools.

Default historic st. augustine

I don't have an answer to this question, but I too would love to live in the historic district. My family and I love the feel of the area. We too are wondering a lot about the area concerning affordability, safety, and the possibility of needing private schools for our children. If anyone has any insight into those things as well as the job market in St. Augustine I would be very appreciative.

if you look at the west side of st. A, you won't move in there. if you like the area, consider anastasia island

Many, if not most people who live in St. Augustine and who are working full-time commute to Jacksonville for work.

There is just not much employment in St. Augustine outside of restaurants, tourism, retail - that kind of thing.

The good part is that even if you were to live in Jacksonville, St. Augustine is close enough to drive down and spend the day (an hour, more or less depending on what part of Jax you were to live in).

I lived by The Fountain of Youth which is a great area. This part of town is called "North City". The only minus was that the trolleys went by every 15 minutes or so, so you kind of felt like you were being gawked at by tourists. You get used to it though!
On the plus side, while you are still part of the historic district, your commute to Jacksonville is much more do-able as opposed to commuting from Anastasia Island.
I wish my husband and I bought a house in that area... Instead, we bought a house by World Golf Village because the schools are more highly rated. We may move back downtown when my daughter gets older and just figure on sending her to St. Joe's Academy, which is a local Catholic school with a really good reputation.
So if I were you I would consider this area as an option. 32284 zip code.
Good luck in your search!

There are some houses down the streets where the trolley just skims the edge of the historic district. Ie. one can see the trolley from their house but not up close and personal. Then there are many houses tucked amongst the B&B's in the tourist paths but then the horse carriages clip, clip past and many streets are walked by visitors. I think it'd be fun but not for a long duration. I probably could take it for five years and then sell property as a B&B...along the path of the carriage rides.
