I don't see it as a ripoff. The fact is, you're connected to a "readily available service", whether you're using it or not. JEA, and every other utility out there, still has costs for operating the service, so the nominal fees are legit. Do you have cable TV? Would you complain to them if you chose not to turn on your TV for a whole month?

Ours went up $25 from the previous month. However, we just move from PA last summer so we are used to being cold in the winter. We had our heat, when it was on, set around 65.

OK, just got the bill. Looks like our electric charge was up $100 (including taxes) over the previous month. Not terrible, but I know we used the heat more than we normally do.

I'm in negotiation with JEA right now over the last bill. They want quarterly plasma donations and a kidney as down payment. I'm offering only the blood.

It seems that every house in Pa is cold. Unless you want your bill to be upwards pf $300 per month, you have to get used to living cold in the winter. I live in PA right now but will soon be going to Jax. I put mine as lo as 60 and I hate the cold weather

I usually turn our heat off at night, but during that cold time I had it on 60-65.
I am assuming that the bill was something over $200.

I did turn on the gas fireplace in the mornings when I would come back from swimming laps, or at night when I am cooking dinner and just can't seem to get warm.
Sometimes dressing warmly just doesn't do enough for me.

It actually wasn't that bad: $133.
But let's see how the next bill is. Maybe this last one did not cover all of those cold days.

Mine was pretty low, but I enjoy the cold weather. Of course, in the summer I can't get my A.C. cold enough.

I never have high JEA bills especially in the winter. My bill was 172. lowest of the yrs. Granted I work and stay in a hotel in Gainesville for 3 nights while working. I dont like heat and prefer the cooler temps. My summer bill is higher though.

We are looking at possibly relocating to St Augustine but are currently in MD -- south of the Mason Dixon line, but we have had more than 3 ft of snow lately (a hundred year record). Our last electric bill was (gulp) $611.
