I highly doubt that it will be USS Gerald R. Ford. The ship was just laid down a few months ago, and as the first ship of her class, will be under construction for quite some time.
Which ever boat we get will be one of the existing Norfolk carriers, except Enterprise, as she will most likely be decommissioned by then.

What difference would it make? The purpose of getting the ship is primarily to keep jobs in the area.

For the sole purpose of job-generation, a Nimitz-class would be preferable. The newer Gerald R. Ford-class (when completed) will have a higher level of automation, and require less crewing than the Nimitz-class.

Wish we could have had the newly renovated USS Carl Vinson come to Jax...my son is on that ship! Alas, they are on their way right now to their new homeport in San Diego. He says the word in Norfolk is that we are getting the Bush, but don't think he has any real insider info.

U.S.S. George H.W. Bush is sitting at the pier right now in Mayport.

I sort of look at the Navy as a Fortune 500 Company for Jax. I don't understand why citizens wanted to get rid of Cecil Field....took a lot of sailors away from the city.
