My husband and I are looking at moving to the St Augustine area possibly by the end of the year. We of course are having an easy time coming up with all the positives, however, we need some help on any negative attributes.

We know the property taxes are higher, and home owners insurance is a lot higher. We are also aware of the communities with CDD fees. We're from Tennessee and have one older child in college, one in entering high school, one 1st grade, and a 3 year old who is autistic. My husband is a RN and already has a job offer from Flagler hospital. I'm hoping my company will let me work from home. I'm an accountant and I'm not seeing any jobs without a huge commute that would pay anywhere close to what I currently make.

Thanks in advance.

Millions of Tourists! Now that's the biggest and only negative about living in St Augustine. As long as you stay away from the historic downtown area it's OK.

I don't consider the tourists a negative. On the contrary. Take away the tourists and what's left is a ghost town. Not to mention the fact that they help to balance the city tax base. When some people hear about St. Augustine they think that most people actually live in downtown St. Augustine and are being trampled by tourists. Not so.

I moved here 15 years ago. Have loved every minute of it. The only negatives are that I have to drive 45 minutes for a traditional shopping mall with full-line department stores and the closest IKEA store is 90 minutes away in Orlando. You will love it here. Flagler Hospital is a great place to work.

We are coming from rural Tennessee. We're used to driving an hour for shopping or good chain restaurants. Closest Ikea is 4 hours away in Atlanta. Never been to one, but 90 minutes away sounds like a dream.

There really were no negatives I can think of. Coming from up north I had to get used to seeing more snakes and lizards but my kids thought it was cool. Where I'm from everything is less than20 minutes away so a little more driving but it's also because at home I live in a area that compares to san Marco but there I lived in a community. People were nice to me I met a lot of people from all over. Enjoy it was a laid back atmosphere reminds you to enjoy life !

Altho I don't live in St Aug, I do drive down there a few times a year. I've noticed that the southern part has grown quite a bit.
The only negative I have is, I don't live there.
