Well, the property between Beach and Atlantic is now posted, so no more inside pix...

The lot that the dome sits on has been built up and there is a retaining wall between it and the adjacent home. I would not want these structures so close to my home and def would not be happy about the retaining wall. Maybe the owner of the house is also the builder of the dome....
You couldn't build that way where I live in terms of the retaining wall (among other things). There are some bad things about ARBs - but regulating drainage isn't one of them IMO. Robyn

I have researched domes extensively for 30 years and AIDomes are the way to go. Insurance costs drop 60% or more, maintenance costs are minimal and utilities costs are a fraction of a box home. I want to build one but Pinellas County land costs are too high.

Fast-forward 10+ years, it looks like the dome referenced above is doomed for demolition. But this is a great thread with lots of opinions and some helpful info. There's a bunch of comments I'd like to quote and question, but much of my interest is in the longevity of the dome as a domicile (NPI) and their actual value as such. While a dome might provide a lower-cost living space, it doesn't seem to add value to a property in the same way a conventionally built home with traditional architecture designs would. I'd be curious to know the fate of some of the other domes referenced in this thread.

Hopefully, some of y'all are still around and can add some follow-up. Cheers.

I had a boss in the Oklahoma City area who had a geodesic dome house. He built a second dome and connected the two with a covered walkway. There is also one in my current neighborhood in Las Vegas. I'm guessing that the owner(s) must have died, because an estate sale has been going on there for some time. Included are a lot of 1970s-era cars (nothing exciting, like GM family sedans and the like). The property itself has been priced at around half a million dollars.

I saw one under construction off of A1A driving from PVB towards Neptune Beach on the right hand side of the road. I didn’t get a good look but it appeared to have some type of frame around if.
