2011 Jaguar XJ 5.0L SC First Drive
Prices range from roughly $75,000-$115,000 depending on version and engine. The above article test drives the 5.0L super charged version in France. Other articles I've read say the photos don't do the body style justice and that it looks fantastic in person. A positive note in the article is that there's been no talk in Tata motors of sharing platforms with Jaguar. Now if only Jaguar would build a traditional British roadster.
in person, this car is stunning. Not traditional like my old XJ was, but something to carry them forward, like the XF is. In person, the rear looks more Bentley than Hyundai or Lincoln. The front is agressive and unique, and the interior is simply sumptuous.
The ONLY issue I have is with the C pillar treatment, but that could be cured with paint even before you took delivery of the car. or just buy the car in black...
Oh yeah who makes it and what country is it built in? I really didn't like the sell outs for Saab, Volvo and Jag a bit, and am not impressed at all by the resulting products.
So someone, somewhere, is getting something done and right? I didn't research this since I expected to be bord to tears.
I like how Jags look but they are quite possibly the worst vehicle to purchase. Their depreciation is probably the highest I have ever seen. Definite lease type vehicle, never purchase. I remember dealing with this 2002 XJ last year, it was only worth like 8k when we ran the vehicle value. It was in excellent condition with lower miles.
that jag kinda sucks..... the 5.0 in the new mustang makes close to those numbers stock and it is NA not supercharged thats funny that a 75,000-115,000 luxury sporty car will get beat by a $33,000 mustang GT 5.0
I had a 2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 and liked it a lot. It wasn't trouble free, but it had more than acceptable reliability over the 124,000 miles I drove it.
GTOlover - please stop it. The 2011 Mustang GT is impressively fast. But 0-60 or HP is not the sole measure of a car's value. Otherwise everyone would choose the Mustang 5.0 over many vastly more expensive cars.
The new XJ will be bought for a different reason entirely and no one will go from the Jag dealer to the Ford dealer trying to choose between those two cars.
I would choose the XJ over a 7 Series or S-class every time just because the XJ has more character.
Looks like a nice car but for the money, I'd buy something else. The reliability of Jaguar is horrendous and the resale value, as someone said, is ridiculous! Personally, I believe Jaguar is a dying brand, they sell so few cars per year compared to other luxury marques that it won't be able to continue. You never hear of people looking at buying a Jaguar if they want a mainstream luxury car; it's always a Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus. If they want a TRUE luxury car; it'll be a Maserati, Bentley, or Aston Martin. I just don't see Jaguar quite fitting in anywhere.
