These "rules" have nothing to do with how the person will or will not perform at that job.

It shows you're not exactly bright......... that's a pretty good indicator

In an interview you are showcasing yourself - you do NOT chew gum, eat, drink or text or talk on your cellphone (in fact you should turn it OFF prior to the interview)

GOOD LORD!!!

That is just silly. Of course it has something to do with how the person may perform that job. People have to follow rules and use common sense to perform their jobs. If you can't demonstrate those traits during an interview why would someone think you would demonstrate it on the job.

Anyone who doesn't have the common sense to put their best foot forward at an interview obviously won't have the common sense to handle day-to-day issues in the workplace.

Chewing gum may not be related to actual ability to do a job but it demonstrates a lack of respect for the interviewer who took the time out of their busy schedule to interview you. You can debate this until kingdom come but if you persist in chewing gum in interviews, don't expect to get a job anytime soon if you are actively looking right now. If you cannot demonstrate common sense of not chewing gum DURING an interview, then the interviewer will wonder about how you will behave after the interview. Not many interviewers would take a chance on someone who clearly shows a lack of common decency during an interview.

BTW: Thanks for high-jacking my thread.

Hmm ... A red head wearing a pink outfit that matches little FuFu's pink sweater. What color was the doggie just so I can get this vision right?
