My husband had his first phone interview with a company on August 5th. They called him back on the 17th of
August for a second interview which he had on August 20th.
After that, they called on the 25th of August to set up a
date to fly him out of state for a third interview which he
had on September 1st. The company paid for his flight, he stayed in a 5
star hotel and had dinner with two supervisors in the department
where my husband might work. The third interview took place
at the company for about 5 hrs. He was introduced to people
on the team, shown around by HR and sat in a
room with the team for about 45 mins answering questions,
etc.. After the third interview, HR told my husband he
should hear back in a couple of days (Friday, sept. 3rd). No
phone came but a email from Hr arrived on Sat informing my
husband that she will be on vacation next week and that he
hopefully would be hearing directly from the head manager or
an HR person next week (Sept 6th-10th). Well, it's the 9th
and no phone call. I understand that they are extremely busy
with 11 projects in the works and interviewing other
candidates but it's getting frustrating waiting for an
answer. Also, the position he applied for had 4 openings at
the time he applied and now there are 8 total as of Sept.
2nd. So they really need a lot of people for this particular position, which is very encouraging. My question is.... do companies usually take
this long to get back with an offer/rejection? This waiting
game is aggravating.

Thanks so much for your time.

Yes they do. It's normal now. For example, my husband, when he was looking for work back in 2007, he was flown across country twice for interviews. Now only did they take forever between interviews but if you add up the whole process, it was nearly three months! He didn't get the job which we now know was a good thing but yes, it takes a long time.

I am looking for work as well. I was pretty much on the same timeline as your husband. I had two interviews and I was supposed to have my third at some point but they called me today to notify me that they hired an internal employee instead. It's so frustrating. You still have some time, just wait until at least the end of tomorrow... if not, I am sure they will get back to you at some point next week.

The waiting sucks.

Yeah...I wouldn't wait. Keep on looking. I was interviewed for a job two weeks ago and they clearly told me that they were going to call me last week if I was going to get hired. No call yet, so I just keep on looking.

Well to put your mind at ease-- this seems they are actually going through pretty fast in their process-- I know it doesn't seem that way for you though.

I received the official offer this week for a job that I had been verbally offered the previous week.

I applied and started interviewing in July.

I should also add that I am internal candidate so they didn't need to do anything with background checks or even flying me to meet with the interviewers (I did only phone interviews and had previously met and worked with some of the interviewers).

I got my 3rd interview with a Sr Field Rep on Monday. What should I do next?

I was scheduled for a 3rd interview with a Sr Field Rep for a company I applied over the internet. I reached out to a HR manager at the company and she said she would be the best person to go about doing it. The first interview was with her and I passed. She forwarded to the Regional Sales Manager for a 2nd interview. I passed with him as well. I just got my 3rd interview with the Sr Field Rep on Monday last and I coordinated with the HR manager to tell her how it went. I did not speak to her direct but send her an email letting her know that it went really well, or at least I thought I did. She replied back and said, "Good deal, it would take a few days before she hears back." It's been 3 days already and I send an email yesterday to get a quick update, but I did not hear back from her. I am concern at this stage whether or not I am selected for the a final interview which is an in person visit. I think the only answer to this question is to wait it out to hear back from her. Do you have any suggestions what I should do? Your input would greatly appreciate it.

Give it a week or so. Some companies are slow to respond and some won't contact you @ all if you didn't get considered.
