Even in those fields that have been hit the worst by this current economic recession (like architecture and construction suppliers), going a full year without a single bite from resumes is worrying. That indicates that there is something to do with your resume that is keeping you from at least scoring an interview. You say you have applied your 'dream field' training as much as possible to your current job but is that reflected properly on your resume? Does it show that you have remained current on the industry's trends and knowledge? Ask someone in your 'dream field' to critique your resume (and cover letter) and make some changes to it.

The other thing you need to look at is how you are targeting employers. I would assume at this stage that you have contacted quite a few employers but you might talk with whomever reviews your resume about your strategy too. Are you sending them to the right companies? Are you looking for the right kinds of jobs? Are you contacting the right people?

I agree it was not wise to tell your boss that you were looking for a job at this stage. While he may be inclined to bargain with you now, that mood is going to change significantly when he realizes that you have no chips with which to bargain.

What exactly do you do or what is your dream field?

You are giving such vague context that it makes me wonder (much like kodaka) if your resume reflects the sort of ambiguity that you are giving here.

In order to get any help you have to provide more information than you are currently.

Right now, a decent job is a great thing to have even if it makes you want to spoon out your eyeballs........

If I was in your position, I would find a way to leverage myself into 'dream job' world by doing something like volunteering in the field. Part time so I could still keep my real job that pays the bills.
