I was considering bringing a letter of recommendation from my previous boss to an upcoming interview.
I've never done this before and was wondering is this considered tacky or would it possibly help me?
If the position I'm interviewing for is directly related to my previous position, then I normally bring a small binder which contains pictures of the success I've had securing selling space in stores (before/after pictures). I was thinking of including this letter within that binder.
I would appreciate anyones thoughts on this? I'm really trying to separate myself from the other candidates. This position is exactly the same as my last position working within the same chain of stores as representing a particular company.
For positions that require applicants to bring a portfolio of work samples, and it sounds like yours is one, then applicants can bring their list of references but keep them tucked away in a pocket of the portfolio--until and unless asked. If the employer does not request your references, then do not pull them out. Such an action will be received as presumptuous and arrogant, since it circumvents the employer's hiring process, and usurps their position of authority in the process.
Thanks for your reply. Coming across as arrogant was definitely a concern of mine. I assume I should still bring the portfolio but leave the recommendation letter tucked away unless asked for it? I appreciate your feedback and advice.
