Do large companies typically call to reject or just send out rejection letters/emails? (cover letters, interview)

Anyone know about state farm? Do they typically call with offer and email for rejection. I received a message to call them about "interview results" (was for a claim rep position in Florida). Not sure what this means - I hope it's an offer.
Typically, you'll get a letter or email if you get anything at all... and many of them don't say anything... and leave the job up on their website, too!? Good luck...
I've been told by friends and family that if they really want you, then they'll get back to you in a very timely manner. Furthermore, the way your wrote your "interview followup thank you letter", or doing so won't make any difference if you really are a solid candidate, or just way off.
When they do send a rejection letter, at least it offers closure.
I do hate how generic they can be. I understand that some folks have volumes to process, but it's a bit hypocritical if they expect applicants to tailor our resumes, applications, and cover letters to NOT be so generic when they do the very thing we shouldn't be. Alas, it's still a employers market.
One person online shared an awful rejection letter where not only did the HR rep just sent a generic response to everyone, the HR rep also didn't BCC the recipients. They were just CC-ed, so everyone got to see who was on the list! Contrast that to one rejection email I got where the recruiter told me while the team had a lovely time discussing my background and about the work they do, they had to go with someone else. Very unusual that I actually felt a little better despite not getting the job.
I wouldn't expect a phone call from any potential employer, especially a large one.
