I just got home from my first job fair and I felt it was a waste of time. I'd say there were about 10 booths, although one was a college and another was a website dedicated to getting people to work (which could be a nice tool). I printed a good 30 copies of my resume, dressed to impress and practiced my interviewing skills. None of the jobs accepted resumes and merley said "Thanks for your interest, you can apply to jobs that interest you online". I was just thinking to myself "uh, I could've done that in my underwear at home and not wasted a day going here". Are all job fairs structured this way? I guess I expected them to conduct short, 5 minute interviews or something...

Yes, it has been my experience that jobs fairs that are open to the public are a waste of time. Job fairs held on college campuses tend to be much better.

Jobs fairs on a college campus will have more people, but they'll just be saying the same things. Apply to the website or we're not hiring right now. I stopped wasting my time in attending those things.

I think they are generally a waste. But, if you are unemployed and sitting at home anyway I think it's worth a shot.

A real waste, I went to quite a few when the economy tanked but they aren't really looking for employee's as they would lead you to believe they are HR people data mining for resumes.

It's worth it if you can walk to it.
It's also worth it if driving your car doesn't cost you anything.
