I just had a phone interview that ended with the woman telling me that she's still interviewing for candidates for this position and will get back to me in 2 weeks what the next steps will be. That's not a good sign right?

In the past, if I did well on a phone interview, they usually scheduled a face to face interview right there and then instead of telling me they will get back to me.

Has this happened to anyone? Did they actually get back in touch with you after that 2 weeks to let you know that you made it to the next round?

I had a phone interview that I felt went extremely well as I managed to establish rapport with my interviewer. Even though it went well, she still did not immediately schedule me for the followup interview until a few days later. Maybe the company has a formal interview process in which face to face interviews are not scheduled until after phone interviews have been conducted with all candidates or maybe there's multiple people conducting the phone interviews and they need to consult with one another before making the decisions on who to call in for face to face. Don't assume the worse!

From my experience, I've learned to not too much stock into "how I thought I did".

I've had interviews that I though went great, but I was rejected.

I had other interviews that went anywhere from okay to great, but I got the "we're still interviewing other candidates" when I followed up within a week, so I didn't put too much stock in it the following weeks, and then out of the blue, 3-4 weeks later, I get positive news that I was selected.

Exactly ... I cannot tell you how many times I've felt that I have totally bombed an interview only to be hired. Of course, I'm sure that I have aced a few interviews but an internal candidate may have been chosen instead ... Just do your best and keep looking ... Don't worry excessively about how you did on a particular interview ... If the job was meant to be, you'll get it.

I just had a phone interview today as well. I don't think I did well either. Hopefully, they weren't for the same position.

Did you ask how you could follow up if you don't hear from her? E-mail? Thank you note? From secretary? etc? That would have been my only suggestion. It may be a bit forward in the early stages, but it gives them the sense that you are very interested in the position (even though I didn't do this).

However, if the company didn't like you (or me, for that matter)..there's a dozen more out there to impress. Just keep going. That's the way I see it. Never put all your eggs in one basket.
