I call it "creative writing" and expanding your current job duties to things you know you could do if given the chance...
Current job: Usher, creative spin- Event Coordinator. Or Event Security.
Same thing...basically...just expanded a bit.
Given the extreme bias hiring managers have against unemployed people, I don't blame the OP for fudging those dates. I'D do the same thing if I had to. Desperate times and all that... and if he getzs caught, he's in the same position as he is in today: unemployed. The deck is stacked against employees these days; you gotta do what you gotta do. The odds of someone checking after he's been hired are very slim.

The worst thing that can happen if you get caught is getting fired which is still better than not even getting an interview.
If you must lie on your resume than do it; it's a tough job market and you do what you gotta do to stay ahead of the competition. Some people will tell you don't do it or it may come back and haunt and I say to that so what? Telling the truth is not going to set you free either in fact if anything it will get your resume in the trash. Best of luck.
