How man applications/resumes do you send a week/month.

Do you think sending a ton of resumes to alot of employers will have a better chance of landing a job then pin pointing particular employers and sending a few?

It depends on what's out there on any given day. I have my "rounds" of web sites that I visit either daily, every other day, weekly or once or twice a month. It usually takes me anywhere from 4-5 hours a day to go through this routine.

I only apply to jobs that I'm qualified to do and that covers a lot. I have a medical, legal and software backgrounds, I also will apply to any retail jobs in my area (and they are very few).

So to answer you question it could be from zero to 4 or 5 a day.

It's pointless to apply to a job that has requirements that I don't meet even if I have experience to do the job. For example if a requirement is a BS/BA in a specific field that I don't have but have performed the duties listed on the job specs I've quit applying, it's a waste of time in this market.

I agree. I only apply to jobs that I have previous experience in. It's funny because I never got hired from an application before.

Approximately ten a week, but on a daily basis, it would vary. Some days I may apply for five or six, other days I may take the day off and do something else.

I don't find the 'spray and pray' method is effective at all, so I don't waste my time applying to jobs I'm not well qualified for or that I don't really want. It's a waste of time and may cause me to overlook a better opportunity.

Sending out resumes is important, but a better metric of productivity for at least a white collar job seeker is the number of conversations had per week with a hiring manager or someone who can directly influence a hiring manager. That's what networking is really about.

When I was job hunting, 10 a day. It helped that I wasn't bound by geographic considerations and was focusing on major metropolitan areas, so there were many jobs to apply to. Of those 10, about half were low skill retail jobs. The others each got a tailored cover letter and resume. I had a huge amount of "stock" letters and resumes on my computer that could easily be edited to fit specific jobs and companies.

At my peak, I was able to crank out 15 government applications a day, KSAs and all.

I am bound by geographic considerations.

Many will tell you they cannot move without selling their house. I have over 10 to sell. I sold two last year.

I send out applications mostly.

The job fair I went to recently was the only place I knew that took resumes in the past 5 years.

I stick to applying to where I have pre established residency(houses), or relatives.

This means North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

If jobs are posted, it means I send out around 4 a week. The problem is jobs are not always posted.

I have applied outside the country as well.

When I was unemployed probably about 5 a day. Not many geographic limitations. When I was employed about 5-7 a week
