When the economy was going better, it usually took me 10 interviews for every job offer. It's just a numbers game, the more interviews you go on, the better your chance of getting hired. I even went to interviews for companies that I had no desire to work for just to get more experience in interviewing.
Just had an interview earlier this year to be a vendor for a local bank chain. I had more sales experience but they ended up hiring someone who used to work at the bank because they had a solid network of contacts within the bank still. Had another interview years ago and was pretty much offered the job on the spot and was to call back to get a start date. When I called back they would not return my calls. Finally 4 months later they called to give me a start date. The corporate office had put on a hiring freeze for a quarter and they called me as soon as the freeze was up.
