I'm currently applying on craigslist and am very disappointed. The majority of responses I'm getting back are from recruiters who are offering jobs that are nothing like what was advertised. The old bait and switch is alive and well. I think I'm going to switch back to my other method of contacting companies directly.
craigslist is a pain in the ass because it doesnt give a lot of info, please dont call, dont this and dont that.
please already, give at least a phone number so that applicants can at least get the correct fax number, WTF is the big ass secret????
the secret of not being harrassed i guess? it is definitely annoying, especially when you send your resume to an email address that either might be legit or not...................and when you don't receive a response your not sure if it went into the internet spam list abyss or they just hate gadhafi and you.
I actually have gotten most of my interviews from CL, but I get a lot of black hole emails where I never hear anything. I typically read the posting, and if it looks halfway decent check deeper, pay, hours, spelling and grammar, etc. I think a lot of it depends on where you are applying and what field. I'm in IT, so those postings aren't as riddled with scams as say customer service jobs or admin jobs.
Craigslist was a HUGE help in my job search when I lost my job almost three years ago. I got my current job responding to the company's post on Craigslist, actually.
I enjoy the work but I've never loathed a company more. And that's saying a lot. They are HORRID, HORRID, HORRID to their employees.
you guys who like craigslist: do you just search a specific phrase for whatever your specific profession/niche is, or do you search all listings? (I ask because I have a business degree and all of my work experience is in a warehouse, and eventually supervising the warehouse
never searched for a specific phrase honestly, i just look everyday through my industries by category. for me it's IT - so I have 3 different areas I check on a daily basis and it's sorted by date. you never know what you might find and what you might end up working with.
I look through my industry and see if there are any jobs I am qualified for. If there are, I look closer at the ad, make sure it is not fake, etc then I apply. Sometimes I hear back, many times I don't
In the Springfield, Missouri craigslist it is a pretty good source of jobs. There are a lot of scams on there, but after a while you get to where you can pick them out pretty easy.
When you are unemployed anything is worth a shot. IMHO
In some cities you have to pay a fee per category to post a job listing. I know that in New York and SF, there's a fee.
I've gotten two jobs from Craigslist ads in the past. Though, I never respond to ads that don't disclose company info or have a "hidden" email address. I'm not wasting my time sending my resume to a spammer.
