meaning i see a person on facebook and I feel they would be a good fit, so I message them with details . . . good idea?

or does it seem awkward, weird, and random? will it look like a scam?

You could get lucky, but more likely their page is full of exaggerations, and unless you represent a well know company they are likely to think you are a scammer.
