I'm kind of skeptical about my resumes just being thrown in the trash for whatever reason and it containing my home address. Would it be unprofessional to use a PO Box?
Depends on where you are. On the Big island of Hawaii, using "General Delivery" is pefectly acceptable since many areas have no mail delivery, they ran out of post office boxes and few PMBs exist. A PO box is pefectly aceptable if thats the legitimate address for mailing. However, you can always put your actual street address followed in smaller one line with the "Mailing Address" so they know where you live and where to mail things to.

You can get a P.O. Box from UPS store, With a real street address, And it's not expensive if you prefer privacy.
A P.O. Box on the resume will get tossed. Always have a proper address, Tel #, E-mail address, And a cover letter-Tailored to the position being applied for.
If you think about it, if an employer is already tossing out resumes for candidates who aren't local, why would they trust a P.O. Box? Withholding your real address could be considered just as sneaky as having multiple/large employment gaps from leaving jobs off your resume.
