Since nowadays, it's commonplace for potential employers to ask for Facebook passwords, I'm wondering if my lack of Facebook activity will make me unemployable in the future. Although I've had an account for 6 years, I seldom use it. I don't think I've used Facebook at all in the last 3-4 months. Although I mention some of my interests in my profile, there's not much there. I don't post much to Facebook not because of paranoia but simply a lack of interest.

I don't really fear the day a potential employer asks for my Facebook password to look at it but more fear being turned away because of the lack of activity in my Facebook. What do you think?

I think they would welcome it, personally I don't post anything on Facebook, I play 2 games and I'm done. So many people have been fired or not even considered for a position because of the things they have on Facebook. I still would not give a potential employer the password to my facebook account, that is a major invasion of privacy in my opinion and there is no job worth it for me.

Many people use Facebook for personal reasons/communicate with friends and family.

That's what I do. I don't use it for networking or other business activities. That's why there is LinkedIn.

My husband doesn't have a Facebook account. Like I have said before, my personal life, however boring, is my own. Anyone in corporate who wants my info from it can **** off.

I don't see why it has any bearing on your employment if you don't use Facebook. Don't worry about it. Just say I don't use Facebook, but get a Linkedin account and say you use that.

You are really asking this question? Seriously?

That would be #547,125,547 on my list of things to be worried about.

Huh? First off if someone asks you for that, do you really want to work for them?

Second, don't you pay attention to the news? People have been fired for what they have posted on their Facebook pages. From servers complaining about bad tips to teachers complaining about parents and coworkers.

Less is more.

BTW, many police depts now check Facebook after a DUI that results in injury or death. Many morons post pictures of themselves in bars and talk about how much they like to party.

And shock of shocks not everyone has Facebook or feels the need to post all their business online.....well the smart ones anyway.

You should refuse to give your password on principle. I don't see why a lack of FB activity would have a negative impact. Strange question.

I don't do Facebook. It's for kids, drama queens, and show offs. If my family wants to keep in touch with me they can pick up the phone or email.

Not so strange. I've had this same thought myself. So many people are becoming very entrenched in FB. I think that some people would consider someone who refrains from FB to be "odd."

Of course employers would discriminate for not having a facebook page, as they'll assume you've got stuff to hide. So you can't win either way - have a "like" for your fave Senator or Congressman - get fired. Have no online identity at all, you'll be passed over for some sap that willingly spills his or her guts, passwords and all - that is, if they have on there what the employer likes to see, which can't be found out in advance, of course.

In this game, all employees, prospective or active, are losers, as the deck is stacked against them - just like the casino, the house always wins in the end.

If only FDR had lived to see another term in the 1940's - we'd not be in this position today if he had been able to pass his brilliantly conceived Second Bill of Rights.
