I want to apologize in advance to everyone because I am new at this, so feel free to correct me.

I'm an accountant and I work full time, I have no children, but all my friends do which sucks, I only go out on the weekends, I have a boyfriend who annoys me sometimes so I am looking for a part time waitress/bartending job. I did it for years when I was 18 until maybe 25 (I am 28 now). I am confused in how to write my resume. I'm unsure about the objective, and do I put on there the accounting firm I work for. The objectiv part is the bigger dilemma. I want to make is sound like i am a hard experienced worker but I want a break if the very very boring world of accounting. I can not think of a way to say it so it sounds professional and I have been brainstorming for sometime now. I'll love yous (that's not a typo youS is a Philly word)forever!!

I just did this, and honestly not sure if it is the 'right way'. It did land me one interview, so I may try elswhere.

I put the relevant experience up on the top of the resume:

Waitress--Club CDF
Experience

Waitress--Bar Hop
Experience

Then towards the bottom I just put current positions, listed them in order without details. I wrote a cover letter explaining exactly what I was looking for and why.

Objectives are out of date, but in your case it may be good to put "Working part-time job as a bartender in an upscale club"

Around here you need a certification and at least 9 years of experience for a bartending job. You'll have competition too. Normally you aren't supposed to need a resume, the reason you might now is because employers are raising the bar to ridiculous levels.

I agree with veuvegirl... objectives are overrated and unnecessary. It's acceptable to re-organize your resume into what ever style you need, though. If you want to list an entire work history in order of recent to oldest - fine. If you want to break it into sections, such as Experience and Work History - that's fine too.

I think in your case, the latter would work better because it highlights your bartending experience (which is all they really want to see), and then also lists your entire work history which includes your work as an accountant. Feel free to break the 1 page rule, but don't go over 2 pages. Keep it very clean and easy to read.

Your cover letter is all that needs to explain why you're looking for a job as part-time. These days, more and more people are taking on second jobs, so it's not like you're doing something new and unique. Present your best foot forward, and do your best. Good luck!
