Since it was a Saturday afternoon interiview, I wouldn't be surprised if the manager wasn't out drinking on Friday night and too hungover to make it into work.

The same thing happened to me few years back when I was interviewing for a medical insurance company ( a big one).
In your case they told you the manager was sick. In my case the manager forgot. SImply forgot. I think she was Christams shopping because it was like few days before Xmas. I stood there in the lobby for 2 hours (from 1-3pm) while everybody in the ofice was trying to get a hold of her. From time to time the receptionist would call upstairs only to tell me that her things were there but nobody knew where she was.

I was so furious because I took 1/2 vacation day off to go to that interview. I left. A couple of days later the headhunter who arranged the first interview called me saying she would like to reschedule. No appologies, no explanations, not even a whitel lie. Nothing. I sent them both to hell. Actually I told the headhunter I don;t want to work for such a person.

One time a manager kept me waiting for two hours and then I got a cshout out from the receptionist and was told he was still in meetings and would not be able to see me that day.

I wrote a letter of complaint to the President of the Company on a wim and got a letter back in a week saying how sorry he was. The guy who stood me up wrote to me via email and asked me to come in again. (He had been balled out by the President of the Company for his rudeness)

* I turned down the interview request because I know he would be angry and find a way to disqualify me and I would be wasting my time.

What would YOU have done?

{hehe}
It's been a while since I've heard of someone getting bawled out for something...
It's really an expressive way of saying it.

I would have done the same thing. If a company is playing games from the start that is a bad sign.
Unfortunately on the other hand I am unemployed and even a paycheck from a bad company is still a paycheck. Hopefully things will turn around for all of us.

I would have written to the President of the company as well. Two hours is ridiculous.

It's funny how, even though you did nothing wrong, you lost whatever chance you had for this job because of a mistake the hiring manager made. The hiring manager absolutely deserved to be called out for what he did to you.

I wish people would take other people into consideration.
Guess I'll be the odd man out and ask why you think they have access to your application/phone number or any other private information? You think a manager should leave that info just anywhere for anyone to see?
I can understand being upset with the manager, she should have designated that task to someone (who knows, maybe she was seriously ill and didn't even think about the interviews), but why anyone would think other random employees would even know to call off an interview the manager scheduled is beyond me.

It just shows how people are. When I left I did say "I completely understand being ill and I hope she feels better however I would have appreciated a phone call." After all this was all the way across town and gas is over $4 a gallon here. I guess I shouldn't have said anything I am sure I will be in the do not call file for saying anything but I was so angry.
Whew I feel a ton better now!

They were in the wrong and you definitely deserve an apology. But are you serious about the discount for the clothes?

And it's no excuse for not calling, but Saturday does tend to be a very busy day for retail. They were down a person and still had to serve customers, etc. I don't think there was anything wrong with saying what you said. Who knows, maybe they'll appreciate your polite assertiveness? If not, you're better off not working for such an employer.
