It's pretty common in most of parts of the world to include a profile picture with your job application. Without it = instant trash bin.

Do you think the USA and Canada should have a similar situation?

I preferred the pictures aproach becuase it leaves less room for surprises. The downside(or upside?) is you tended to be selected by people who want to sleep with you. I've met plenty of people who did hire specifically for this criteria(no cute guys in this bunch! ). Discrimination is a huge factor but some folks know they won't hire a certain type irregardless of interviews.

One study found attractive women get discriminated under this system(not men) since most HR people are women

Beautiful women face discrimination in certain jobs, study finds

My problem with still shots is that not everyone is photogenic or look as good as they are in person. I find that I look the best and most "inviting" when I'm smiling in my photos.

I'd prefer to Skype. I did this once already. It's good to have a good lighting and background, if you can.

No way! Minorities would never get a job. The problem between our country and others is that we still have a deep current of racism running through us. It's very easy to get around anti-discrimination laws, especially if you work among people who hold the same attitudes as you.

Yeah, but if they're racists, then it doesn't matter whether you send a pic or show up in person. You're still not going to get the job.

My problem with still photos is that you can't see the "personality" coming through which is why Skype is better.

Bad idea, unless you're hiring models.

Perhaps ... or not ... but at least you've got a chance.

Pictures are not mandatory on social media sites, nor are social media sites necessarily accessible by the general public.
